AIR'S THE HOTTEST REAL ESTATE

I lost my job and the Atlantic rose
six-hundred feet all at once
so I bought a bird feeder
it's the least I can do
to care for the survivors

the fish won't make it
their home is a Dixie Cup
with black mold festering the ridges
schools of organs too soft for plastic, so
I feed the birds

they are not my birds
but the birds who have chosen me
I belong to blue jays and cardinals
like the amendments belong
to the motherland
