STRAIGHT

                   after Wittgenstein

At the end of reason comes persuasion
At the end of persuasion
oblivion   and the inability to say
whatever I was meant to answer

I planned to allow those men their faults
Of course they forget our meetings
because we are lovers
and because they are married

Out of the scrub brush
one after another emerges   insisting
he seeks aught but my happiness   (typewritten
thought after typewritten thought)

Though they dream and they say
out loud that they’re dreaming
and further in their dreams
that it’s raining and we’re lovers

still they remain in error
though we are in fact entwined
by certain accords   and their dreams
connected with the sound of the rain
